Building a Remote-First Culture at Afto
How we built a thriving remote team across 15 countries and what we learned along the way.

Building Remote-First Culture
From day one, Afto was built as a remote-first company. Today we have team members across 15 countries, and our remote culture is one of our biggest competitive advantages. Here is how we built it and what we learned.
Why Remote-First: Access to global talent pool, lower overhead costs, better work-life balance for team, ability to hire the best regardless of location, environmental benefits. Our team spans USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Poland, India, Philippines, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, and more.
Communication Principles: Default to async communication, document everything, over-communicate rather than under-communicate, use video for complex discussions, respect time zones. Tools: Slack for quick sync, Notion for documentation, Loom for video updates, Zoom for meetings, Linear for project management.
Building Trust: Trust is the foundation of remote work. We focus on outcomes not hours, encourage transparency, regular 1-on-1s, team building activities, annual company retreats. Result: 95 percent employee satisfaction, low turnover.
Challenges and Solutions: Time zone coordination solved with core overlap hours and recorded meetings, isolation prevented with virtual coffee chats and interest-based channels, onboarding improved with buddy system and comprehensive docs. Want to join our remote team? Check careers at /contact
