Hiring Remote Developers: Our Playbook
How we built a world-class engineering team by hiring remotely across the globe.

Hiring Remote Developers
Building a great engineering team remotely is challenging but rewarding. We have hired 30+ developers across 12 countries. Here is our playbook for finding, evaluating, and onboarding remote engineering talent.
Sourcing Candidates: Post on remote job boards like We Work Remotely and Remote OK, leverage LinkedIn with remote-first messaging, encourage employee referrals with bonuses, engage with open source communities, attend virtual conferences and meetups. We get 200+ applications per role.
Evaluation Process: Initial screening call to assess communication and culture fit, take-home coding challenge that mirrors real work, technical interview focused on problem-solving, system design discussion for senior roles, team fit interview with future colleagues. Process takes 2-3 weeks total.
What We Look For: Strong communication skills for remote work, self-motivation and ownership, problem-solving ability over specific tech knowledge, cultural alignment with our values, timezone overlap for collaboration. Technical skills can be taught, but these traits are harder to develop.
Onboarding Remote Engineers: Assign an onboarding buddy, provide comprehensive documentation, schedule daily check-ins for first week, set clear 30-60-90 day goals, ship something small in first week. Result: 95 percent of new hires succeed and stay long-term. Join our team at /contact
